Last night, Oprah Winfrey was awarded the Cecil B. de Mille Award at the Golden Globes. She is the first black woman to receive this award, and no one of any colour is more deserving in my opinion. Her speech was inspiring, motivating and thought provoking. I found myself sobbing while listening- each word like a breath of fresh air after being in a smoke-filled room.
There is a shift happening among women, a shift happening among men. This is going to be my most vulnerable year, I can feel it. I am ready for whatever comes my way. I will embrace it with faith, grace, and a little bit of a “what will be will be” attitude.
The conversations I have had with women over the last few months have been raw, real and open. Maybe part of it is age, but I think it is something bigger than that. We are the women we have been waiting for.
Can you feel the change too? If you can’t, pay attention today, listen to what people are saying, and how women are holding themselves; listen to yourself.
It is going to be an amazing year. I can’t wait!
Tell me about your shift in mindset, your change in spirit. What will be different for you this year?
